The New Forest is full of hidden gems! Whether you’re after a peaceful place to enjoy nature, or some unique food and drink, these lesser-known spots are not to be missed.

Sunrise and Sunset Spots:

The open areas and clear skies make The New Forest an amazing spot for catching the first moments of the day, or the sun's last rays:

Hatchet Pond

The largest body of fresh water in the forest, hatchet Pond makes for the perfect spot to catch the sunrise or sunset. The trail that outlines the pond allows you to view it from either side, meaning you can choose between catching the first sunlight of the day, or the last. The vast body of water acts as the perfect mirror for the colours of the sky- a truly magical view!

Bolton’s Bench

Situated at the bottom of Lyndhurst high street, Bolton’s Bench sits on a hill that offers marvellous views of The New Forest. Acres of lush plains, combined with the forest’s clear skies, makes this the perfect viewing platform to watch the sun go down!

Lepe

If you’re more of an early bird, Lepe Beach might be the perfect location to catch the sunrise. Miles of coastline makes a perfect base to watch the sun come up over the water, a view that is not to be missed.

Rockford Commons

If you’re after panoramic forest views, look no further than Rockford commons. The miles of heathland adds a purple pop to the vividly coloured landscape, creating a view that looks like a painting.

Beaches

With over forty miles of coastline, The New Forest is the perfect place to soak up some rays. Beat the crowds and capture some epic views with some of the more hidden beaches:

Tanner’s Lane

If you’re after a truly hidden spot, Tanner’s lane beach is ideal. This tiny beach will let you soak up the sun without company, and if you’re lucky, you may even catch some wild ponies enjoying the sea.

Far Side of Lepe

If you carry on past the main car park, you’ll find a more hidden part of Lepe. If you’re lucky enough to grab one of the free parking spots along the road, you’ll be able to wander through hidden cutaways, revealing a quieter, sandier part of the beach!

Brock Beach

Although not on the coast, Brock Beach is the perfect place for wild swimming! The large stream makes for a nice spot to cool off after a hot day, and the free parking and nearby grassy area makes it perfect for a picnic!

The new forest has a vibrant food and drink scene! Whether you’re after trendy coffee shops or Historical pubs, there’s something for everyone.

Situated along the Beaulieu River, The Master Builder’s is a gorgeous pub that boasts a traditional menu, including roast dinners on a sunday! Overlooking the river, the pub’s garden is the ideal place to enjoy an evening drink under the sun!

This scenic walk is the perfect trail for families! A gravel track will take you through a nature reserve, allowing you the opportunity to catch a glimpse of what The New Forest has to offer! There’s even a dedicated bird watching hut along the trail. With a pub at either end of the route, this walk makes for a great family day out.

Lymington Seawall Walk

If you’re after more of a coastal trail, the Lymington Marshes trail is just what you need to fill your lungs with salt air! With routes of different lengths taking you through this nature reserve, this path will allow you to explore the breeding and roosting grounds for many bird species!
